# Special Enrollment Periods (ACA)

A qualifying life event (job loss, marriage, move, birth, loss of coverage, etc.) generally opens a 60-day window from the event date. Miss it and you typically wait for Open Enrollment.

CMS ended the monthly SEP for households at or below 150% FPL on August 25, 2025 for plan year 2026. CMS has said that SEP is scheduled to return for plan year 2027 (coverage beginning January 1, 2027). Confirm before assuming year-round enrollment is available.

Medicare has a separate SEP system with different triggers.
